Spuds Roll Around MDI

On the Fourth of July the Spudland Racers Running Club took to the roads on Mount Desert Island to participate in the 6th Annual Around the Island Relay. The 61.09 mile route was broken up into 8 legs ranging from 5 to 10 miles each. The relay touched every town on the Island and featured some of the most fantastic views in the country. The Spudland Races didn't take too much time to stop and enjoy the scenery however, finishing first overall in a course record 6:01:07, shattering the record previously set by members of the Colby Cross Country team. The Spuds had the fastest times on each of the eight legs, and set course records of five of the eight. The times from the Spudland racers were as follows:

Leg 1 (10.09 mi) - Robert Gomez, 56:57

Leg 2 (8.95 mi) - Jeffrey Sprague, 49:52* Course Record

Leg 3 (9.08 mi) - Spencer McElwain, 56:42* Course Record

Leg 4 (6.34 mi) - Drew Freme, 42:31

Leg 5 (5.59 mi) - Robert Gomez, 30:52* Course Record

Leg 7 (6.7 mi) - Jeffrey Sprague, 37:56* Course Record

Sprague and Gomez 1-2 in Harrison

Southern Spuds Jeffrey Sprague and Robert Gomez traveled to Harrison on Thursday, July 10th for the Harrison Old Home Days 5k. Sprague and Gomez took 1 - 2 in the festivals evening race. Sprague set a new course record in 15:45 followed closely by Robert Gomez who finished in 15:52.
